Dr. Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) ist ein „State Department Supply Chain Logistician“ – ein Schreibtischhengst. Bei seiner Arbeit sind Ryan eine Reihe von Finanztransaktionen im internationalen Terrorismus aufgefallen. Die deuten darauf hin, dass ein bislang eher unbedeutender Terroristenführer namens Suleiman (Ali Suliman) in sehr naher Zukunft Großes plant. Ryan wird vom CIA-Mann James Greer (Wendell Pierce) kurzerhand ins Feld geschickt, nach Jemen.
Nach ersten Erfolgen gegen ihn kann Suliman entkommen und beginnt seinen Terroraubzug, bei dem ihn Ryan auf den Fersen bleibt. Eine von Ryans wichtigsten Zuträgerinnen wird dabei Suleimans (Ex-)Frau Hani (Dina Shihabi), die Angst hat, dass ihr an der Seite des Vaters befindlicher Sohn bei dessen Plänen ums Leben kommt.
In den USA bahnt sich derweil eine Romanze zwischen Jack Ryan und Ärztin Cathy Muller (Abbie Cornish) an. (Text:bmk)

Jack Ryan ist fraglos eine der populärsten Agentenfiguren in der amerikanischen Unterhaltungsliteratur der 1980er Jahre und definitiv die bekannteste Figur, die Bestseller-Autor Tom Clancy ersonnen hat. Hollywood ist es dennoch nie so richtig gelungen, aus den Büchern eine ähnlich ikonische Filmreihe zu machen. Die fünf Ryan-Einzelfilme, die zwischen 1990 und 2014 entstanden, waren für sich genommen durchaus erfolgreich, doch ein vergleichbares Profil wie die Reihen um James Bond, Jason…
Das wars mit John Krasinski als Jack Ryan, aber besser eine gute kurze Serie als lang und langweilig!

Ärgerlicher Mist. Mal eine seltene Serie mit Dolby Atmos, und dann wird es an 4k gekoppelt. Ergibt einfach keinen Sinn.

Leider wird die Serie mit jeder neuen Staffel schlechter. Staffel 3 war schon nicht so toll, aber die jetzige Staffel 4 ist die letzte und das ist auch gut so, denn die bisher verfügbaren zwei Folgen fand ich nur langweilig.

Autor Tom Clancy schuf die Romanfigur Jack Ryan, der bereits in mehreren Kinoabenteuern in die Geschicke der Welt eingriff, darunter in „Jagd auf Roter Oktober“, „Das Kartell“, „Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit“.
Die zweite Staffel der Serie war eigentlich für den 1. November 2019 angekündigt. Prime Video veröffentlichte sie dann jedoch als „Überraschung“ am 31. Oktober 2019. Branchenbeobachter vermuten, dass Prime Video damit vor allem auf den – später verkündeten – Start von Apple TV+ am 1. November aus dem Weg gehen wollte und nicht von der dortigen Berichterstattung überrollt werden wollte.
