This is especially true when you're looking for a Mother's Day gift from toddlers and younger kids.

Accordion Paper Flowers

Perhaps instead of fresh flowers, you can change it up with a stunning bouquet of paper ones. You can also use these to decorate the house for Mother's Day, either by adding some string and hanging them or using them as a table centerpiece.

Steps:

  1. Download the templates,
  2. Cut out four pieces of yellow or white paper (depending on what color daffodil you would like) using the first template.
  3. Fold the paper in half, both vertically and horizontally, and open it again. Fold the bottom up about ¼" and crease it down.
  4. Flip the paper over and fold it all the way to the top until you create an accordion.
  5. Fold the accordion-folded paper in half and attach the two middle pieces with double-sided tape.
  6. Repeat steps 2 to 4 with the remaining three pieces of paper.
  7. Connect all four with a strip of double-stick tape to create a flower shape.
  8. Cut out a rectangle of orange paper about 2" x 1.5" and cut little points on one of the long edges.
  9. Roll the rectangle loosely to make a tube shape and connect it with a small piece of double-sided tape, folding the bottom edge down to create a flat bottom. Glue the little cup you made into the center of the flower to finish your daffodil.

Painted Cupcake Liner Wreath

Even the littlest of kids can create this vibrant wreath for mom with her favorite colors — just be sure to lay down a drop cloth or newspaper on your work area before getting to the dye.

Steps:

  1. Paint each cupcake liner a different color by making brush strokes on the edges of the liner. Be sure to keep the center white to get a "flower look."
  2. Let everything dry.
  3. Once dry, attach your painted cupcake liners to the foam wreath form with a pin in the center and alternate colors to create a more dynamic-looking wreath.

Egg Carton Lily Wreath

You wouldn't expect something made with an old egg carton, ribbon and paint to look so stylish and unique, and yet it totally does!

Steps:

  1. Cut the tall pointed peaks from an egg carton with a craft knife or sharp scissors. (Save the egg cups for more flower crafts!) Cut the base of the peak into 4 petal shapes. Repeat with more egg cartons as needed.
  2. Paint the outside of each flower with white craft paint thinned with a little water. Once completely dry, paint the inside with a contrasting color.
  3. To make a wreath, poke a hole through each flower using a skewer. Cut a 30” piece of sturdy floral wire. Thread 7 flowers on each end of the wire, using hot glue to secure each in place. Tie a ribbon bow in the center.

Steps:

  1. Cut fabric 1” larger than your glass.

  3. Cover your glass with a heavy book and wait several hours for your new coasters to dry.
  4. Once dry, trim around the edge of the glass with fabric scissors.

Egg Carton Flowers

Assemble a bouquet of egg carton flowers that she can enjoy well beyond Mother's Day. Our advice: Have the adults cut out the "flowers" first and let kids get creative with paint!

Steps:

  1. Cut off the top of the egg carton and the extra flap on the other edge.
  2. Cut out the center columns from the carton by making small cuts with your X-Acto knife.
  3. Cut out what is left on the carton to use as egg cups.
  4. Using the center columns you cut out, clean up the edge of the opening with your scissors.
  5. Paint the columns both inside and out with some thinned-out acrylic paint for a washed look.
  6. Using the egg cups, cut around the top of the cup to make it the same size all around or rip the top edge with your fingers to get a more rough look.
  7. Paint the cup with your thinned-out acrylic paint for a flower look.
  8. For a petaled look, cut down the four corners of the cup and clean up using your scissors and rounding the tops of each petal before painting.
  9. Keep the stem in place by attaching floral wire to the middle. Use the wire cutters to hold them.
